The church devotes considerable energy toward nurturing the Christian faith of its congregants and producing Christian servants in the community. These efforts regularly go beyond Sundays, the front doors of the church, Pinehurst village limits, Moore County, the state of North Carolina and the United States.
At Pinehurst United Methodist Church, we’re aggressively and enthusiastically directing those efforts toward the up-and-coming future leaders in the church.
Missional:
PUMC Youth are engaged in serving others at home, across the country, and even outside the country. Locally, they pitch in to help the church’s Parents’ Night Out mission. They’ve visited residents at local nursing homes and have even treated them to Christmas Carols during the holiday season.
One of the clear favorites for the kids has been the yearly trip to Union, South Carolina to partake in Salkehatche’s home-building and repair mission work.
“I learned how to use a nail gun there,’’ said high-schooler Alana. “I worked with and met some really great people down there. I think I’m going back after I graduate.”
Another memorable event for many of the youth was the mission trip to our nation’s capital. They met and interacted with foreign exchange students while working in a food bank. They interacted with a homeless population that ranged from toddlers to senior citizens and got an eyeful of poverty unlike anything you’ll find here in Moore County.
Many of our youth had a chance to travel to El Salvador to partake in a home-building mission. High-schooler Martin recalls the terrible conditions he witnessed.
“There were people living in houses with only two brick walls,’’ he said.
